Viscount and Viscountess Ridley kindly open their grounds once again for our annual walk across the Estate, taking in the Northumberland Cheese Factory and Milkhope Centre for refreshments along the way. This year we are pleased to offer the choice of three beautiful routes – 3, 6 or 9 miles. Dogs on a lead are welcome.
Award winning author Bill Bryson will be joining us for the fifth year and is always happy to chat to supporters on the day. He will also be holding Question and Answer sessions before each walk. Everyone is welcome to pop along and ask questions or have a book signed.

Every penny that you raise in sponsorship will help researchers at the Wolfson Childhood Cancer Research Centre in Newcastle with their work to find more effective treatments for childhood cancer. There is no minimum sponsorship for this event but please do raise what you can – every £1 makes a difference. All walkers will receive a Big Walk certificate and a Big Walk limited edition souvenir.
Choose from three beautiful, circular walk routes:
3 miles (Big Walk) – Suitable for both all-terrain pushchairs and wheelchairs this short circular route follows tarmac and gravel paths through the Estate grounds, taking in the Milkhope Centre along the way.
6 miles (Bigger Walk) – This longer route is still family friendly but offers more of a challenge, following woodland, tarmac and gravel paths. Take a short break at the Northumberland Cheese Farm for refreshments along the way.
9 miles (Biggest Walk) – Our NEW longer challenge for more experienced walkers. The route takes you across mixed terrain including farmland, woodland paths, over stiles and up grassy banks to join the 6 mile route at both the Northumberland Cheese Farm and again just before the Milkhope Centre.
