There may be more traffic than on a regular Sunday morning accessing Bitts Park for the Children’s Cancer Run so be prepared for your journey to take longer. Please allow plenty of time to arrive before your run start time.

Getting there by Car:

Car Parking

Thanks to Cubby Construction, the Castle Car Park on Devonshire Walk is the official Children’s Cancer Run parking area for runners and spectators driving to the event. It is closed to the general public on run day.

If you are a Blue Badge Holder, the Event Steward at the entrance will help you find an appropriate parking bay.

If you are driving to the Children’s Cancer Run please park in the Castle Car Park on Devonshire Walk, off Bridge Street. Parking Spaces

Access into Bitts Park

From the North

Exit the M6 southbound at Junction 44 towards Carlisle (A7) and Workington (A689). Use the right hand lane on the slip road and take the 4th exit towards Carlisle – A7(S). Follow Kingstown Road (A7) south for approximately 2 miles towards Carlisle City Centre. Cross over Eden Bridge and take the 4th exit off the roundabout onto the A595 (Castle Way), a dual carriage way. Follow the A595 (which becomes Church Street) over the River Caldew to the first roundabout and take the 4th exit by the McVities factory back onto the eastbound lane on the A595. Continue past Sainsbury’s on your left, staying in the left hand lane for the City Centre, and go back over the River Caldew. Take the next turning on your left, before the castle and pedestrian bridge, onto Devonshire Walk. Turn left into Castle Car Park approx. 80 metres along Devonshire Walk.

From the East

On the A69, nearing Brampton, take the A689 towards (M6 North) and Carlisle North. Follow the A689 to Brunstock Park and take the first exit on the roundabout by Brunstock Park onto the B6264 (Brampton Old Road). Continue to the end of this road and turn left down the hill onto the A7 into Carlisle City Centre. Cross over Eden Bridge and take the 4th exit off the roundabout onto the A595 (Castle Way), a dual carriage way. Follow the A595 (which becomes Church Street) over the River Caldew to the first roundabout and take the 4th exit by the McVities factory back onto the eastbound lane on the A595. Continue past Sainsbury’s on your left, staying in the left hand lane for the City Centre, and go back over the River Caldew. Take the next turning on your left, before the castle and pedestrian bridge, onto Devonshire Walk. Turn left into Castle Car Park approx. 80 metres along Devonshire Walk.

From the South

Exit the M6 northbound at Junction 43 towards Carlisle, Hexham, Newcastle A69. Use the left hand lane on the slip road and take the 1st exit towards Carlisle. Stay on Warwick Road (A69) for approximately 1.7 miles until you reach a fork in the road. Take the right turn at the traffic lights onto Victoria Place, before St Aidan’s Church, signposted towards Through traffic, West (A595), Colleges, The Cumberland Infirmary Hospital (A&E), Car Parks and Tourist attractions. Follow Victoria Place until you reach a major junction and turn right at these lights, towards The Sands, northbound onto Georgian Way. When you reach the big roundabout use the left hand lane and take the first exit onto the A595 (Castle Way), a dual carriage way, towards THE WEST A595, City Centre and the Hospital. Follow the A595 (which becomes Church Street) over the River Caldew to the first roundabout and take the 4th exit by the McVities factory back onto the eastbound lane on the A595. Continue past Sainsbury’s on your left, staying in the left hand lane for the City Centre, and go back over the River Caldew. Take the next turning on your left, before the castle and pedestrian bridge, onto Devonshire Walk. Turn left into Castle Car Park approx. 80 metres along Devonshire Walk.

From the West

B5307: Once you reach Moorhouse, continue along the B5307 for another couple of miles until you reach a roundabout. Take the 2nd exit at the roundabout towards City Centre, Newtown Industrial Estate and the Hospital (B5307). Through Bellevue go past the Cumberland Infirmary on your left hand side and at the roundabout at the end of Port Road take the 1st exit past the McVities factory onto the A595. Continue past Sainsbury’s on your left, staying in the left hand lane for the City Centre, and go over the River Caldew. Take the next turning on your left, before the castle and pedestrian bridge, onto Devonshire Walk. Turn left into Castle Car Park approx. 80 metres along Devonshire Walk.

In an effort to ease traffic flow in and around Bitts Park, our fantastic Transport Partner, Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire, will be providing additional discounted services on run day, saving passengers at least 50% on fares to and from the run. These fares are vaild on any route going into Carlisle. Just tell your driver that you are taking part in the Children’s Cancer Run
