Frequently Asked Questions for the postponement of Children's Cancer Run Newcastle

Why has the Children’s Cancer Run been delayed to Sunday 23rd May 2021

COVID is still affecting events and major gatherings. The Children’s Cancer Run requires ambulance cover and key medical staff in attendance. It’s not appropriate to ask for additional resources or put unnecessary pressure on the NHS.

Many of our volunteers and runners will have children who are currently going through treatment or have vulnerable immune systems.

Our main concern will always be of the safety of our 10,000 runners, supporters, staff and partners and have taken this decision in the best interests of everyone involved.

If I have already registered will my entry switch automatically to the new date?

Yes! You don’t need to do anything further to arrange this.

What happens if I can’t make the new date?

If you can’t make the new date, you have 2 options:

  1. Request a Refund
  2. Donate your existing registration fee

1) Requesting a refund:

If you are not able to make the new date and would like request a refund please email the team at by no later than 15th July
please title your email “Refund Request” 


2) Donating your registration fee

We would ask if you are unable to make the new date to consider donating your entry fee. In a year where we will lose over £350,000 of income, this will help us to continue to fund the life saving research. All donations are very much appreciated!

If you are able to donate your fee, please also email the team at so that we don’t send out your run pack for 2021.

What happens to my Justgiving page?

We will be automatically switching all JustGiving pages to the new event date and all of your donations received to date will carry forward. We will also update the expiry date of your JustGiving page to the end of June 2021.

When will I receive my run pack?

We will be sending run packs out the month before the event.


What about additional items i have paid for such as t-shirts?

If you have already paid for additional items such as t-shirts, water bottles or buffs, we will still send these out to you over the coming weeks – unless you request a refund.

Please ensure you request a refund before 15th July by emailing with the email title “Refund Request”

Can I change my school team if I am in a year group that will have moved to a different school by September?

Yes! We can swap you to a different school team or to be an independent runner if you prefer. Please contact us on if you would like to request this.

To help us with our admin, please title your email “Change of Runner Info” 

Will the early bird rate be extended?

Yes, booking is closed for now, but when it opens again in the New Year, the early bird rate will be available.

Will the event be any different to usual?

We plan to make the event as special as it always is so you can expect:

  • Mini, three or five mile route
  • Food and refreshment stalls
  • Event village with a range of activities and entertainment
  • A brilliant atmosphere and lots of fun

We will also be introducing additional measures to encourage good hygiene at the event.
