We ask all of our charity place runners to aim to raise over £200 in sponsorship to help fund vital research into childhood cancer treatments.

Did you know that less than 3% of all funding into cancer research is spent on childhood cancer research? Help more children beat cancer by running for NECCR.

The Simplyhealth Great North Run is probably the greatest half marathon in the world, with unparalleled support from the people of the North East who line the route from the Tyne Bridge to South Shields.

You’ll be joining over 200 runners on the NECCR team, all raising money for vital research into better treatments for childhood cancers.

Join the NECCR team and we will support you every step of the way. You will receive:

  • An NECCR running vest
  • A fundraising pack
  • An invitation to our pre-run breakfast
  • A friendly face and free snacks at our charity tent in the finishers village

Here are some of the lovely comments we received from our previous runners:

‘Absolutely amazing experience, thank you so much for letting me run for you. Amazing atmosphere and great support from all the other NECCR runners.’

‘Thank you so much for the warm welcome this morning. Lovely to see the whole team, runners and everyone.’

Check out some of the photos from the 2018 run in the photo gallery below. A huge thank you to our 2018 team for raising over £50,000 to help more children beat cancer!

Why run for us?

While research means that more kids are beating cancer than ever before, more children in the UK die of cancer than any other disease.

North of England Children’s Cancer Research was founded in 1979 by a small group of families effected by the disease. We’ve helped turn Newcastle-upon-Tyne into one of Europe’s the leading centres for research into Childhood Cancer.

We take great care with every pound donated, keeping the staff small, the expenses low and directing every possible pound to childhood cancer research.

Treatments for children’s cancer have improved massively over the past forty years, and we’ll keep funding research until a cure is found.
