NECCR is announcing the postponement of the Children’s Cancer Run which was scheduled to take place on 17th May. This event has now been rescheduled to Sunday 20th September 2020.
We have taken this decision in anticipation of advice due to come out cancelling the holding of mass gatherings and the risks associated with COVID-19.
All pre-registered runners will have their entry place moved to this new date, and have been contacted today.
Our event was due to be held when the peak of the virus is expected to hit and would require ambulance cover and key medical staff attending. We don’t feel it is appropriate to add additional pressure to NHS resources at this challenging time.
The safety of runners is paramount, and an event like this requires over 300 staff and volunteers to provide safe levels of cover. Many of our runners and volunteers will also have children who are currently undergoing cancer treatment or have vulnerable immune systems.
We appreciate the news will be disappointing to many, with the run being a much-loved special day for families in the North East. But our main concern will always be of the safety of our 10,000 runners, supporters, staff and partners in the current climate.
There is a new FAQ’s section on the website here which should answer most queries. If you do have any further questions please get in touch with the team at firstname.lastname@example.org and we would be happy to help.
